As we were sitting around last night wondering what the heck to do, the Hubby can up with a great idea.  We went to Comedy Night at the Belly Up.  The Belly Up is a great little venue in Solana Beach, California that holds all sorts of live events ... from comedy nights to up and coming artists and even salsa nights.  The Hubby and I have been here a few different times but this one was the best.  Both of us have never been to a comedy night and let me tell you, wow .... so much fun!!  So this is what I pulled together really quickly to wear last night, comfy yet cool.  Did I just use the word "cool", I think I did .... back to the 80's for me!  Tomorrow we are off to Laughlin, Nevada with some great friends of ours for the long weekend.  I hear the weather there is not so cool .... going to be 100 degrees (around 45 degrees Celsius for my Canadian friends!) not that is way too hot, means lots of time in the pool and water!  Wish me us luck!

Call & Response

Hey Everybody

It's Zack and Take Over Tuesday is happening!

When I heard that some big hip hop producers were putting together a remix album of Maroon 5, I was a little worried but after seeing names like Pharrell Williams, Just Blaze, Questlove, Paul Oakenfold to name a few, I wanted to hear it.  "Songs About Jane" and "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" are two albums that have achieved massive success at the very least in their adult-alternative genre and as various producers break down and rebuild some of the group's definitive singles and other tracks, it's easy to split the album into two parts: the first 10 songs come majorly with a more urban feel, the latter with an intense robotic techno vibe.  It is always tough to do a remix album but there are some cool cuts on this one.  Click the link below, download and enjoy!

My Wish For You 2

My Wish For You
First off let me tell you that I am the kind of girl who wishes on a shooting star, who believes if you tell your "wish" it might not come true, if you find a eyelash you blow it away and make a wish.  Apparently my Hubby is that same kind of person too, I can tell you this because of something he told me last night right before we went to bed.  Without getting too into this and too personal, I have had a issue in the past that just seemed it would never go away, and as I was lying there last night I realized that this so called "issue" hasn't bothered me forever so I mentioned it to the Hubby.  This is what he said .... "All of my eyelash wishes have been so that you don't have to deal with that issue ever again!  That is my wish for you.".  WOW, I gets me all teary eyed right now just writing this.  I knew there was a darn good reason why I married this man, and everyday I am reminded in some kind of way.  What a unselfish man, to wish for me and not for himself.  I love him so, words can not explain!

On another not so mushy note, we had a good friends in town last week that we went out with downtown San Diego and this is what I wore.

Foodie Friday

Hey everyone! Happy Friday!!  I wanted to switch things up a bit today and give you one of my favorite recipes.  I found this wonderful recipe in one of my favorite books called The Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook by Tosca Reno.  I can't remember how I came upon her books but I must say, I really do like them ... we have made multiple recipes from them and I have really liked everyone of them.  This one in peticular is super easy, no skill required really, all you do is mix the wet ingredients with dry and bake and away you go.   The Hubby loves these and they are so handy to have around the house as a quick snack, oh, and did I tell you they are healthy protein bars?!?!  Yuppers, they sure are and they even have a little dark chocolate in them to get that sweet tooth if you have one like I do!

this is everything you will need to make the bars

chopped up dark chocolate pieces

all of the dry ingredients

the two bowls of wet and dry ingredients

everything mixed together

in the pan and ready to go in the oven

the finished product!

And here is the recipe, hope you like them ... let me know what you think if you do give them a try.

1 Cup Whey or Soy Protein Powder ( I like using whey powder better)
1/2 cup quinoa, amaranth, millet, spelt or kamut flour (I like using amaranth flour)
2 cups rolled oats (NOT instant)
1/2 cup oat bran
1/2 coarsely chopped flax seed
1/2 cup wheat germ
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 nutmeg
1/2 cup agave nectar
1 cup dark chocolate chopped
1 1/2 to 2 cups yogurt cheese ( I can never find this and I don't want to make it so I use whole greek yogurt and it works great!)
1/4 canola oil
2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp vanilla ... I use a little bit more I love the taste!

Preheat oven to 350 F / coat a 9x13 baking pan with cooking spray ( I use olive oil spray)

Mix protein powder, flour, oats, oat bran, flax seeds, wheat germ, sea salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, agave nectar, and broken chocolate pieces.

In another bowl mix yogurt cheese ( you greek yogurt), oils and vanilla. Mix well.  Add yogurt cheese mixture to dry ingredients.  Use your clean bare hands to combine these well, coat hands in olive oil to prevent from sticking.

Place mixture in pan and press it down to even out the top.  Bake on middle rack in oven for 15 minutes.  Remove from the oven and let cool.  When cooled cut the dough into bars (I find them pretty filling so I don't cute them too big).  Take the bars out of the pan and place on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and bake again for another 15 minutes.  Remove from the oven and transfer to wire cooling rack and let completely cool.  When all is said and done I store my bars in the fridge in a plastic container ... they last a least a week or so.

Hope you enjoy!

A Must Have

TAKEOVER TUESDAYS

Will I Am's "Songs About Girls" is a tour de force of next-generation contemporary R&B.  All of it devoted to girls he wants, girls he wants back, girls who are gone, girls he's glad are gone, and, of course, girls trying hard to make a living for their family as strippers. When it comes to commercial songs I don't mind the Black Eyed Peas but no one really knows the production power house that Will I Am is.  He has produced tracks for some of my favorite hip hop artists like Common, Nas and many more.  You know that huge hit "American Boy" from Estelle ft. Kanye West, well check out the song "Impatient" on Will I Am's album and you will see that he produced that track.  Did you know he is also a full fledge DJ?  After his shows he will go to the after party spot and spin a set and drop his latest music to see how the crowd reacts, AWESOME!!  Just like trying new things with music he also has no boundaries when it comes to fashion.  His style with clothing is the same as his music, if he likes it, hes gonna wear it and I find that amazing!  It has been 4 years since the release date and still to this day when the wifey and I are rollin around having a good time and can't choose what to listen to, Will I Am's "Song About Girls"  still puts a huge smile on our face!

That's right, when in doubt wear your trusty jean jacket.  That is my theory anyways.  This is a new skirt I picked up from F21 last week and I have been having hard time trying to style it, I am not sure if you can really tell from the pictures but it is lace.  I fell in love with it the minute I saw it, I've been looking for one for some time now.  When I finally figured it how to style it it was the jean jacket that I felt pulled it all together, I kinda like the daintiness of the skirt with the roughness of the jacket.

Oh, and thank you guys so so much for all the sweet comments yesterday, I think that is the most comments I have ever received on my blog post eva!!  I read every comment and I truly look forward to it, thank you so much!

Randomly, I had the night off last night,  there were so many plans .... go to the gym, make some protein bars, return some things, make a fantastic new something for dinner, make bracelets.   Well, two of the five got done, not too bad in my mind!  We did go to the gym and I did make bracelets, you can see them in the picture above .... what do you think, would you wear them???  As for dinner, well, we went out to a restaurant called Casablanca here in Carlsbad.  I don't think we will be going there again unfortunately, the food is far from being good, mediocre at best.  Then it was off to a movie, at first we wanted to go see "Horrible Bosses" but due to the fact that the movie theater that is closet to us ALWAYS seems to have a problem showing their films we ended up seeing "The Help" and what a great mishap on the movie theaters part!  It's funny cause it seems we didn't get to see the movie we wanted to but left with 4 free movie passes to return and loving the movie we did see, oh how everything happens for a reason!  Do yourself a favor, go see "The Help", it is eye opening and great!

Date night

The Hubby and I have decided that from now on Sunday is "date night"!  To me this means we spend the day doing awesome things like lying in bed watching movies, or going for walks on the beach, but for sure going out and trying  new restaurants we have never been to.  This Sunday was the first of many date nights and I even had some time to run out to one of my favorite stores and pick of a few new items (I might just have to post that tomorrow!).  So we went to this great new restaurant in Del Mar called Burlap.  Super amazing food, great atmosphere and even better service.  To say the least we really really liked it.  I am not sure if you ever followed Top Chef but the owner of this fabulous restaurant was a contestant on that show and he also owns another fab restaurant downtown San Diego called Searsucker.  Oh, and this is what I wore last night to dinner, it is new and I am loving the cut at the bottom of the dress!

First of all let me just tell you I am still in amazement with Adele as I sit here writing this post at 11 am the next morning!! I am pretty sure I spent the whole night dreaming of the concert and singing her songs.  I have been to a ton of concerts in my lifetime so far and I have to say, I think Adele's concert was the best!  Did you hear that .... I said THE BEST!!  I have always been a fan of hers since the very first day I heard one of her songs and after last night I am only a bigger fan.  The lady is unbelievable, if you can even imagine this.... but she sounds better in person!  We got to see her at a outdoor amphitheater, which was stunning.  She is funny and super whitty, and she told us stories about how she came to write each of her songs.  She even got her crew to grab a very lucky guy from the crowd to go up on stage and give her the sign he had made and they took a picture with the crowd behind them ... how amazing, I think she made that guys life!!  Sorry for rambling on about Miss Adele, but it was such a great experience, if you enjoy her music and ever get a chance to see her, please do!

On another note, this is what I wore out to dinner, we went to the super amazing Italian restaurant called Cucina Urbana.  It was amazing to say the least, a great way to start what was about to be the best night!  I had to change a bit due to the concert being outside and I was not going to run the risk of getting cold and grumpy during the show so I but on black tights, black cowboy boots and my trusty jean jacket.  A bit country but super comfy and perfect for the chilly night.  Now all I wish it that I would have gotten a picture of the before and after and that I would have gotten to meet Adele ... oh well, maybe next time!  Here are a few extra shots of our night.

 Our seats!

This is how photo taking usually goes around here, I am in a hurry to rush off to work and the Hubby is usually busy working on a project, then I come running out of the bedroom all dressed up and say "I'm ready"!  Most times a get a whistle and a you look hot, but not always and then the trouble starts ... you know, the whole second guessing thing, which is the worst!  Not on this day however, all went well.  The next step it to try and figure somewhere awesome for a mini photo shoot, usually the alley wins.  On this particular day it won ... as it almost always does.  I live two blocks from the beach and the alley wins?!?!? What the heck, right?!?!  I think it is time to start get up earlier in the day or maybe just a little more organized.  Nothing better then taking your photos and have some randoms walking down the alley telling you to work it right!  This is my favorite.  On another note, we are going to see Adele tonight!!!  I can't tell you how excited I am and hopefully I will have a fun outfit post for tomorrow as well as some of the concert and of dinner .... stay tuned!

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am that my Birchbox has arrived!  I was over visiting Linley's blog, it's called Dwelling & Telling, and she was talking about her Birchbox that she had just received.  I think it took me a total of 1 minute and I was over at the Birchbox website signing up.  So you pay a ten dollar fee monthly and they send you a cute little box every month with samples of all sorts of girlie stuff.  How fantastic right?!?!  I love finding out about new and great products so this was right up my alley.  Usually I wait till I meet up with some of favorite girls, otherwise known as Meghan and Jenny, when I am in Canada ... they always have the new greatest products.   Looks like this will be my fix till I get to meet up with them ( oh how I miss them! ).

Just a little update, I have had a few friends ask me if they ship to Canada and I am sorry to say that they don't yet, but are trying!!   Sorry to get you all excited just to take it away but the minute I hear of any changes I will let you know!

Hey everybody, it's Zack, Jess' husband and it's Tuesday so I am taking control of her blog and letting you know what I know.   First and foremost, I'm not a huge fan of "mash ups".  If a song ain't broke, don't try and fix.  With that said, I am now a fan because when this "mashup mixture" landed in my lap from a friend which wasn't a typical half-assed mash-up project where someone took acapellas and slammed it on top of an instrumental.  Remixer Wick-It, a Nashville-based DJ/producer has taken Big Boi's (one half of the group Outkast) latest album "Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty" with fellow Grammy nominees the Black Key's "Brother"s and melded the to albums into something freaking amazing called "The Brothers of Chico Dusty".  The Black Keys bring the fuel the and Big Boi brings the fire delivering his verses faster than 4G download speeds.  Outkast are one of my all time favorite hip hop groups and after hearing the Black Keys in the past couple of years I have become a huge fan.  All I can say is that this is the perfection fusion of albums to bring pure soul-hop to your ears. Download the whole album for free, just click the download link and enjoy!

Introducing ... Toms!

Yes, I am in love with my new shoes!  I recently read a amazing post by one of my favorite bloggers about Toms.  Living in Southern California you see a lot of people wearing these shoes all the time.  I have to admit, I kinda liked them but I was not super crazy about them until now.  When I was reading the post by Paisley Print Shoes (love those ladies!) I found out that for every pair of Toms purchased, they donate a brand new pair to a child in need!  I was amazed, and before I knew it I was off to find myself a pair of Toms.  Now not only are the pair that I purchased super duper cute, but the are so very comfortable, its almost like wearing a pair of your favorite slippers out and about.  I don't want to take them off.  And then to top it all of, they donated a pair just cause I bought a pair ... love it!!  Do yourself a favor, go by a pair of Toms, you won't regret it!
